Vine Street Brewery, a renowned British beer company, is collaborating with South African company, Beer is Art, to bring an exclusive taste of Africa to the UK. Together, they have produced a unique pilsner-style beer, named Kwanza, that merges the heart of Africa with tradition of British brewing.
The term ‘Kwanza’ translates to ‘first’ in Swahili, signifying the beer’s pioneering endeavour to encapsulate the flavour of the African continent. With an aim to amalgamate cultures together, the companies are illustratively encapsulating the spirit of Africa in a can while endorsing the vital purpose of sustainability.
What sets this brewing expedition apart is not merely the exclusive flavor profiles being introduced. A significant portion of the proceeds generated from the sales of Kwanza will be directed towards an initiative by Beer is Art to construct Africa’s first sustainable brewery. This venture not only promotes eco-friendly practices but also fosters the local brewing community’s growth and development.
In a statement, Vine Street Brewery stated, “We are thrilled to be able to offer a taste of Africa through our collaboration with Beer is Art. We believe in their cause and are proud to contribute towards their sustainable initiative.”
Kwanza beer packaging, in line with the initiative’s spirit, bears the aesthetic contributions of African artists Lungile Mbokane and Sean Christopher Ward. Both artists have created vibrant art designs, infusing the beer cans with Africa’s diverse and colourful heritage. This move adds a cultural quirk to the beer cans, making them a collector’s item.
This partnership brings more than just a unique beer to the table; it highlights the intersection of arts, cultural appreciation, entrepreneurship and sustainable development. In offering an intriguing taste of Africa, Vine Street Brewery and Beer is Art are embarking on a rewarding venture that aligns with making a difference. With the launch of Kwanza, the brewing industry takes a step forward towards infusing art, sustainability, and philanthropy into a beloved beverage.
